Silvia, I think you're probably right that vyl = some form of "to be" (am, is, was, were), but until we know for sure, I really think we should leave it wide open or even off this translations page. Even getting the tense wrong might lead us to make incorrect assumptions down the line, so I think we should leave speculation to the forums and only post here what we're 100% sure of. - Molecularr

Auxiliary/modal verbs

Ruk man you esutl seek thyr jalun you to the ishka of the eutshoo.

Esutl would almost have to be an auxiliary verb, no? I can't think of any other words that would make sense in context.

Off the top of my head, possibilities are:

  • must
  • should
  • will
  • would
  • could
  • shall
  • can
  • may

Possibly also "need" -- "the man you need seek" would be a bit archaic sounding, but...

I'm also going to guess thyr = "will" and jalun = "lead." Phaedra 15:15, 31 October 2006 (MST)

I'm thinking it would pay to create a "Lanti -- workspace" page that's nearly identical to the current Lanti page, but allows users to substitute unconfirmed translation ideas so that it's easier to brainstorm collectively without messing up the main page.
